Sadly, Xerxes' owner could no longer care for him due to medical reasons. A relative asked us for assistance in finding Xerxes a new home. Thanks to the foster home that offered to care for Xerxes we were able to accept him into our rescue.
Xerxes is a lovable dog that is about one and half years old. He weighs about 60 lbs and is a bundle of energy.
Xerxes likes dogs of all sizes. He is a bit curious about cats but for the most part ignores them.
Xerxes is house trained and knows basic commands such as sit, down, come, off and kennel up.
Please read his foster home feedback for more info.
If you would like to provide Xerxes a loving forever home, please fill out the below pre-adoption application.

October 11 - Xerxes is SUCH a sweet boy! Although
we have only had the pleasure of having him in our house for a couple
of days, we have already started to fall in love with him! Xerxes gets
along very well with both our dogs - we have a pitbull and a miniature
pinscher/chihuahua cross, so he likes dogs of all sizes. He is neither
food or toy possessive, but LOVES to play "Tug" with our other
pitbull. (He wins!) He is a bit curious about our cats and likes to sniff
them and poke them with his nose, but has never done anything else. They
don't like him and he pretty much ignores them!
Contrary to his original listing, Xerxes has been neutered and weighs
60lbs - not 80 as previously stated... However, he is still 60 lbs. of
solid, pure muscle! He is an absolute TANK of a dog. But don't let his
brawn fool you - he is a gentle giant who likes to sleep in a ball by
my feet, always give kisses, and follows my wife and I around CONSTANTLY
looking for any hugs or butt-scratches.
Xerxes seems 100% house-trained (no accidents yet!) and knows a few basic
commands - sit, lay down, come, get off (furniture) and kennel up. He
goes to bed in his crate with little to no protest, and listens COMPLETELY
to any commands my wife and I give him. Depending on his mood he will
"heel" but if he is excited he can be a big "tugger"
on the leash. We are working on that...
Although my wife and I do not have kids, Xerxes did well with children
at the pet store this afternoon, and was SUPER on the car ride there.
He was curious and wanted to greet every person or dog we passes. He does
get a bit wound up now and again, as ALL pitbulls do (they're FULL of
energy) but is the sweetest dog and would NEVER hurt a fly (but he will
lick your face and give you "wet willies"!) He is not destructive
at all, and hasn't chewed anything he isn't supposed to yet! He likes
to run around and would be best suited for a family with a large backyard
(pref. fenced in) as he will need a lot of exercise.
If you have the time to play and exercise this big guy, he has love in
his heart for you, and he will be a WONDERFUL pet for some lucky family.
My wife and I already dread the day we will have to see him leave us!
Xerxes appropriately interacts with small dogs such as Pongo.
