Hello there! I'm Skylar and boy do I have a story for you, I was taken from my previous residence and I can't say I'm upset about it. My owners never visited me and when I was found I was literally skin and bones!

I have found out what its like to be loved and fed on a daily basis now and I can't tell you how happy it makes me! I have found my inner puppy and I love to play and go for walks. I love to be around my humans and I promise I will be your constant companion but if you have to leave me for a while I will busy myself with my toys. I love playing with all the other dogs here and I really really really like cats, but I am definately too rough with cats ( I can't help myself they are so small and furry and fun to chase! ). So a home without cats would probably benefit both of us.

Please read Skylar's feedback for more info.

January 14th - Skylar attended Advanced Beginner's Obedience last night and did amazing! The instructor was hesitant, seeing as though she hadn't passed Beginners, but was very impressed with Skylar by the end of class. She did great healing, sits when I stop without queing her, lays down and stays to the length of the leash. We w...orked on meeting strangers without dogs and having them pet her, she wanted to jump up to them, but patiently waited for them to come to her! Next, we greeted fellow owners with their dogs and Skylar looked at the other dog with curiousity, but did not try to push forward to them. Last, we walked inbetween and around owners and their dogs and she did great at ignoring the other dogs. All-in-all, I think we are on the fast track to obtaining her Canine Good Citizen Award!

December 29th - Skylar has been with me for about a month now and is doing great! She gets along wonderfully with my red heeler, Cutter. They play very well together and share their toys. Her favorite thing to do is sleep! She's the first one to bed and the last one to get up. She did not like going outside during the blizzard the last few days, but she managed. We have been working on her boundaries in the house. I don't allow her onto the bed or furniture unless she is asked. She will sit at your feet and wait patiently for you to call her up, if you don't she'll curl up on your feet, she likes to be touching you! I have enjoyed having her at my place. Everyone that has met her has fallen in love! (My heeler is getting jealous!) She loves to play tug-of-war with you, or another dog. She is very strong, and usually wins against me and my dog! We have been working on "place" and "drop". She is getting a lot better than when I first got her. You can give her a bone or toy and then take it back.

She is a wonderful guard dog! Whenever there is a strange sound, she lets me know and we go check it out together. After giving her the command "leave it" she stops her barking and returns to my side. She is getting a lot better with walking on leash. We are still working on her eye contact when asked to "heal" but she's coming along. She does great in the car.

When I get ready to leave, she waits patiently for me to open her kennel door, if it's open, she can be found on her bed before I leave. She is a loving dog that is very appreciative of the attention and love she is receiving.

October 25th Volunteer Feedback - I had the pleasure of having Skylar in my home for almost a week. She is adorable, very affectionate, very smart and well behaved in the house. She seems to know sit, off, wait. She loves to play fetch, tug, was working on “drop”, can be playing like a crazy girl, but then will quickly “chill” and loves to cuddle. She follows me everywhere - won't leave my side. However outside is a different story, doesn’t seem to know heel, and being extremely strong could use some obedience training…she is a tank of a little girl. I think she will do very well in obedience as she loves to please. She seems to have a little bit of food aggression with other dogs and acts like she is always starving, which is not surprising considering her past. However she will sit and “wait” for her dinner when instructed and will allow me to take her food away and give it back without any problem. Skylar is definitely a “people” dog, will make someone a wonderful companion and will be truly devoted to her owner.
