Bumper was rescued from a local pound. When we picked him up he was in terrible shape! Covered in waste, and his eyes were pretty much crusted shut. Bumper was very shy, didn't want to be handled at all... It was clear that he had been abused, since he reacted with fear. Poor little guy!
His foster home is providing loving care to help him learn to trust again.
Please read his foster home feedback for more info.
Ocotober 16th - Bumper had a photoshoot yesterday,
he is so handsome! He is truely an amazing little guy. Bumper's transformation
from when we first picked him up in September has been incredible. My
goal at that time was not only to get he healthy, but to make his tail
wag. His tail wags like crazy now! Bumper is such a strong little fighter,
and he is so appreciative for his second chance at life. He would like
to thank 4 Luv of Dog and the West Fargo Animal Hospital for everything
that has been provided to him. Bumper is truely a new dog!
October 9th -Quick update on Bumper. He is doing
so much better. He doesn't look as sick as he did when we first got him.
Bumper's coat is coming in so well, he had a few balled spots and some
irritation before from malnutrition. He is getting shiner all the time!
Bumper is going to be a Lobster for halloween, he makes a great Lobster.
He is doing so well. Bumper is going up and down our stairs now just fine.
He gets up and down off our furniture too! Last night he chased a fly
around the house and finally got him, he was so proud. I think his eyes
might be getting a little better... he is able to see shadows a lot better
and he has learned to make use of his senses to get around. He is such
a good boy and his confidence has skyrocketed!
September 13th - When I picked Bumper up from the pound, he was
in terrible shape! Covered in waste, and his eyes were pretty much crusted
shut. Bumper was very shy, didn't want to be handled at all... It was
clear that he had been abused, since he reacted with fear. Poor little
guy!
I brought Bumper home and bathed him... given his lack of trust I wasn't
sure how he would react to a bath, but he actually really enjoyed it!!!
I washed out Bumper's eyes and put antibiotic ointment on them and he
ran around like a puppy to dry off. I think he was really happy to have
some sight back!
Bumper is pretty slow, for the most part, and still shy. He is vision
is impaired due to cataracts and he does bump into things. Stairs are
an issue for him. Bumper has some kind of mass on his rump/tail. He will be going
to a vet ASAP to check his eyes and the
mass.
Bumper does nip a little when you try to pick him up, but he has decreased
that almost completely since we first got him, probably because he is
starting to trust us. He has had some accidents in the house, but we are
working on that. As soon as he gets to the grass he goes potty, and then
we praise him and he gets treats!
Other than that, he LOVES to walk around our yard and go for short walks.
He loves belly rubs and to be cuddled and petted. Bumper's confidence
has gone up already since yesterday morning and he is starting to trust
my husband and I. He gets along just fine with our female shih tzu too.
They cuddled on a car ride last night actually. He eats just fine when
you show him where his food is.
I will send you an update of how Bumper is doing in a few days. He seems
to be opening up little at a time. Bumper would be a good dog for someone
with a lot of patients... Alls he wants is someone to love and care for
him :)
